There is no doubt that Coach Gary Kubiak is a great coach however with that
distinction, is meld, with a solid dose of omnipotence. It is one
thing to be confident about what you are planning to do but it is another when
your opponent clearly knows that plan & will utilize that plan against you.
It's not like this was some sort of secret as the Bears just faced Henry to
clearly indicate their passion to shut down ... or at least hinder ... any
run game.
For two consecutive weeks Dalvin Cook was the offensive player of the week,
where he gained that prominence mostly on the ground. The Bears clearly
have, if not the best, then most certainly, one of the best run stopping
defenses in the NFL. Their game plan was to key on any & all of Dalvin
Cook's running attempt to great affect. In fact, one could say that the
Bears did their best to brutalized Dalvin ... like tossing meat into a sausage
grinder. This clearly exposed Gary Kubiak's failure last night in that he
attacked a fortress ... the strongest part of the Bears defense ... as if he had
some sort of tactical nuke rather than trying to understand the intelligence at
hand ... thereby exploiting it. By definition, only an omnipotent fool
would attack your opponents strength rather than to exploit your opponents
weakness. Simply stated, when Cook was in that backfield, the Bears did
everything they could to key on him as their #1 priority. Whereas when
Alexander Mattison came in ... the Bears had no idea what to key on, nor did
they know of our intentions. If Coach Kubiak had instead used Alexander
early & often, he would have instead dismantled the Bears plan to employ ...
throw in with reckless abandon ... the Bears "Reserves Pincers" which
were clearly focused upon one point of emphasis. In other words, we lost
our chance to disrupt the Bears obvious plan of action. If Alexander had
been used to help absorb some of that initial brutalization & punishment ...
or not ... Dalvin Cooks outcomes would have shifted & might have been very
different. Defenders are only willing to offer so much, toward that focal
point, before they themselves are forced to change their behavior in time ... to
fulfill their own self interests. Alexander would have diffused those
pincers ... instead Coach Kubiak reinforced Chicago's plan to envelop our plan
onto their favorable battle grounds. Against a more balanced attack, this undisciplined
approach could have resulted in disaster.
If we are to advance in the playoffs, you'll need more than the luck of the
draw, & the ball to bounce your way ... you need to learn from your
shortcomings, mistakes & failures ... even in victory. All playoff
teams have weaknesses but overall the stronger groups have greater balance in
all three phases. So you must temper your plan of action & never ever
ever attack your opponents strength. Most importantly of all ... you
should never feed into your opponents obvious plan of action.
Going into last nights contest, it would be hard to imagine any other player
with so much burden to overcome. That was maybe Kirk Cousins best
performance as a Viking in Chicago as his confidence levels soared on that
field. History will record an interception on his slate however I couldn't
imagine a more pristine game on his behalf. What ended up in Kalil Mack's
hands was a dagger to the heart, only to be stopped by Cousin's reckless abandon
... throwing his body into a side line tackle to stop that score. It
reminded me of the days of Tarkenton who would do the very same ... as some
times ... bad things happen. Kirk Cousins is no game manager ... nor is he
apart of any self perpetuating mold of subscription ... as I'll say it again ...
he can win any contest of which he takes part ... especially when he has certain
elements at hand. Many parts of his offensive line are still maturing
before our eyes, but it is the best set of knuckleheads that I've seen in well
over a decade which is allowing him the opportunity to exploit his many
tools. Too many are lost into thinking that he is still mired within his
chains of his past not knowing that he's evolving into a new level ... a new
stage ... being able to exploit within the matrix.
To the untrained eye, the Bears contest was a brutal & ugly thing to watch
... especially seeing our #1 draft pick ... return a kickoff 104 yards to douse
our lead into oblivion. There were so many key elements & key
contributions by so many members of this franchises squad ... at vital moments
... that there wasn't a moment to take your eyes off this contest. It was
by its very definition ... entertainment ... in helping the Bears to
struggle. On the other hand, there are a great number of idiots &
retards (fantasy fudge packers) that enjoy watching game scores of 58 to
54, with absolutely no detection or evidence of defense whatsoever, as if every
sport needs to approximate basketball. For me ... what I relish ... what I
cut my eye teeth upon ... is the savoring aspect of observing a true DEFENSIVE
STRUGGLE ... punching you in the mouth at every turn as it unfolds before your
eyes. To watch another one of Head Coach Mike Zimmer's brilliant masterpieces
unfold ... using a little more than a tossed together squad of "solid
potential performers", combined with a bit of spit & polish. Well
... that was a marvel to behold.
In Minnesota, our third phase of the game has once
again morphed from a common "Special Teams Unit" into "A
Nightmarish Agglomeration of Upheaval". This 3rd rail could easily
meant different outcomes in our last two contests. The short circuit
calling card has appeared on the kick off, extra points, punts, long snaps, line
protection ... or in other words, the petulance floats or it floating. In
case you are unaware ... Never kick the ball directly to Devin Hester. A
line drive kick to Patterson ... after a touch down return ... are you kidding
me? Either there are gremlins a-foot ... a reason for it ... or there is
some sort of "Blair Walsh Type" disconnect. It's not about
hating kickers anymore ... it's about burning them all at the stake. Afterwards,
we can just call the game "Ball".
