Protecting NFL's Number 1 Assets  September 16, 2022
It is time to stop dancing around the issue.  The NFL is all about entertainment ... pure & simple ... and to maintain that level of excellence this league needs to protect it's number one assets ... not just Tom Brady.

The Kansas City crowd, being shown the replay in slow motion, could clearly see that Joey Bosa over ran an offensive linemen followed by Bosa launching at the lower legs of Mahomes.  A flag is dropped, where we are all thinking "Tom Brady Rule", where a defensive lineman went low on Brady where his knee & his season were blown for the remainder of that season.  Instead, from the perspective of the officials, in real time speed, it appeared that the offensive lineman dragged Bosa to the ground where offensive holding was called.  The result was Mahomes taking a horrendous shot to his lower legs, followed by a noticeable limp, an accessed penalty & a replay that showed something entirely different.

To protect the NFL's #1 assets, what should have happened is either a booth review, or someone from New York stopping play until the video of that play could be completely accessed.  Why?  Because any time a defensive lineman goes low on your #1 league assets, regardless of the call on the field, if that player either comes up injured or narrowly avoids becoming a cripple, like on that play, what is called for is "UNBIASED SCRUTINY".

First & foremost, the NFL needs to screw any concept in regard to the flow of the game, as what you are talking about is maybe a 5 minute delay in one game.  Compare that with losing a franchise quarterback for the remainder of that season, or in a playoff run.  Wake up people!  Since 1966, these type of events have happened more times than I care to remember & it has involved every NFL franchise.

In regard to NFL leadership, what is needed to be directed by this leagues commissioner, which should have been in place in last nights Chiefs versus Chargers match up is the following.  Mahomes clearly took a vicious shot to his lower extremities.  The play should have immediately stopped to review that specific play regardless of what was called on that field.  What that review clearly showed was Bosa "Bull-Rushing" the offensive linemen, where that lineman only had one hand holding the jersey of Bosa, in the only legal area an offensive linemen is allowed to hold the defender (between his shoulders), as he fell backward to the ground.  Bosa also went to the ground but he clearly launched toward Mahomes lower legs with the intent to either injure or cripple him.

From that review, Bosa should have been ejected from the game for targeting & a 15 yard penalty should have been accessed on the chargers.  The message being immediate ... The NFL will do everything in its power to protect its prime assets.

At that very moment, I was lost to that game as very shortly afterwards, I changed stations to watch something else.

So what happened.  Much later, I turned on a Live Packer's U-tube play by play analysis by accident at approximately the 4 minute mark in the 4th quarter, only to hear another vicious call, stating that it looked like Herbert took a shot that broke his rib.  Off Herbert goes, only to come back to throw the ball into coverage.  That was enough for me as again I turned it off thinking to myself, was that a KC make up shot for targeting Mahomes earlier.  In any event ... the gloves were clearly off.

Here's what is clear.  Last night the NFL almost lost two of its greatest assets for the 2022 season & there is no real procedure in place to SEND A MESSAGE & to protect those assets.  The NFL should be ashamed of itself ... "Mental Midgets!!!"

Don't get me wrong, we all want to see incredible action on the field ... but keep it within the established rules of the game ... and whatever you do ... protect those prime assets.
