Additional Minnesota Viking Commentary

Other Shoe  September 2, 2021
A fan since 1966, there has been only one absolute.  You can never be too boisterous, or confident, or even feel to good about yourself.  Why?  Because collectively we are always waiting for the other shoe to drop on us all.

Mike Zimmer recently stated in regard to having to deal with the latest dropped shoe, "Do you mean the last 8-years?" or "Maybe it's me (that's causing all this chaos)!".  No coach Mike, it is not you.  These daily engagements are a direct function attributable, only to this franchise.  This is nothing new as it is embedded deeply within the psyche of every Viking fan on the planet.  Anyone that might try to blame our Head Coach of Rick Spielman for any of these events says a great deal about the accuser more than the randomness of events that have been bestowed upon this franchise.  In fact, more could be attributable directly to me personally than any of our present fighters within this franchise.  In fact, I've been beside myself in awe just watching the resiliency of these individuals ... time after time ... event after event.  After all, this isn't Tom Brady or A. A. Ron & company that gets just about anything he wants when he wants it.

Adversity is my shield.

On the other hand, we all watched Good Morning Football watching Irv Jr. making claims in regard to the upcoming 2021 season.  How are they going to stop this offense.  Now we all can all visualize Cowboy's fans, Steeler's fans, Packer's fans having a good guffaw over the demise of Irv Jr's season at all of our expense.  What I personally could have clearly stated to Irv Jr. before making these statements would be, "Are you out of your Mind (You're enticing that Shoe to Drop)?"

With hindsight what could have been said was, "You know, I'm looking forward to a very productive season working with this group for yet anther year.  These knuckleheads are a great bunch of athletes & I've had a great deal of fun watching absolutely everyone wallow in the quick sand that we call the NFL.  Maybe we'll get the chance to show that we have a solid team, and maybe we'll achieve all our goals, but as you know the NFL poses a great struggle ... year after year.  There are so many things that I can't wait to experience & see throughout the league."

Unfortunately, youth never seems to comprehend anything but what they know.  Irv Jr. might end up being a great player one day but now he  most certainly has to confront a set back.  Should he now be embarrassed by the statements that he's made ... well that's not for any of us to decide.  Have the gods punished him ... know one will ever know but again ... it's out there.   Regardless, the rest of the league is going to remind us exactly what they think ... and at all of our expense.  Just get well soon Irv Jr. & make it back to us safe & sound.

What I can tell you without question is there is a great deal to be obtained & gained from both generosity & humility.  Any time I open my mouth, fear of that other shoe dropping all over me is ever apparent.  My only option is to be thankful for what I've escaped ... to be thankful for what I have ... to be thankful for all my opportunities ... and to be thankful of all those many mentors that have crossed my path to teach me the benefits of humility.

How often has that one thought ... to be outward or brash ... is the key that pays dividends, only to observe others gain within great humility.  I often wonder if my parents would still be willing to backhand this grown man for the things that I now do, even though they now only exist in my mind.  The answer of course is, you'd be surprised what a great parent would be willing to do for any of us ... even to extraordinary lengths ... as there would be no way I'd be allowed to embarrass any part of the legacy that came before me without at least learning something very hard in the process.  So, Irv Jr. your not alone.  Yes, I've even become grateful for both the thoughts & things that are now non-existent.

As for Irv, today is not as important as February 13, 2022.   Until then let us all remain both humble & grateful regardless of the hand that is dealt.

Gotta love Coach Zim!!!
