Additional Minnesota Viking Commentary

Foles  November 10, 2020
Looking back at Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles, it's hard not to think of our contest with him in our NFC Championship game a few years back.  Although there are many things to point to in that contest that resulted in our eventual demise, there is one outstanding observation that cannot be contested.  In our final contest, the Eagles offensive line was without question the very best in the league where our offensive line left much to be desired.  In that game Nick Foles played that entire game completely unmolested where he tore this franchise a new one from the pocket.  In other words, if either Foles or Brady is left to their own devices ... they will rip you apart.

To beat Nick Foles & the Bears in Chicago, you need to look no further than their recent contest where the Saints defense was relentless ... getting to Foles often.

The Vikings have lost the last four games versus the Bears (2 years straight) where they have been Head Coach Mike Zimmer's nemesis.  At first it was Kalil Mack who became a one man wrecking crew to an evolution of a faltering offense in the face of a very good defense.  Once again, Chicago is sporting one of the best defensive units which will again be a great test for our evolving offense hoping that Kirk Cousins can maintain himself by securing first downs & protect our possessions.   Handing points over to the Bears will not be tolerated.

To be direct, this franchises cannot progress-on-schedule without confronting & besting its opposition.  This Viking franchise must find a way to beat the Bears, on their turf, as management will not stand pat being dominated by this particular division rival.  This testament or axiom is as clear as an azure lake.  The Bears, like many other teams, have major shortcomings.  These deficiencies must be exploited through a complete team effort & it all begins with shaking up Foles in that pocket.

Keep in mind, that all teams are anything but equal.  What works for one team should not be relied upon for another.  Rodgers, out of the pocket, is a nightmare, whereas Foles, on the run out of the pocket is an entirely different matter.  In other words, you are not playing the Fudgies, where that accrued discipline needs to flex into facing a completely different opponent.  Watching Foles versus the Saints, he did get out of the pocket, where he eventually did find the open receiver, but the flustered Foles was off just enough to prevent his signature precise accurate throws.  Funny things happen when dudes are breathing down your neck.  Foles does not equal Rodgers!

One more thing, for Cousins to develop his touch throws, he's going to need "Significant-Height-Obstacles" located between him & his receiver.  Too often we see quarterbacks throwing the ball with no obstacles whatsoever, in front of him, causing the QB's not to shuffle their feet as well as develop "Touch Throwing" ... No wonder there are so many batted-down balls.  There is timing throws & then there is situational awareness.
