Epic November 16,
2022
Sitting on a special cushion
reserved for special season ticket holders, deep in the midst of the Bills Mafia
right on the 50 yard line. For some time now the words EPIC reverberated
threw my ears ... well before the game was played. There was no choice in the
matter ... my attendance was mandatory. These reserved seats were
generational dating back to 1960, the Bills & AFL's inaugural
year. It was awesome!!!
Although the highlight reels indicate something vastly different, of greatest
interest was the Alexander Mattison series, where he shredded that Bills defense
into the red zone. The moment when Alexander took the field, my focus
immediately changed and as "I thee Shred" commenced, an immediate
smile came to my face. Although the outcome of the game was well in doubt,
what was learned by our offense was without question incalculable. The
only hindrance to it all resulted from poor clock management & indecision.
If the offensive mindset remained stout, upon entry into the red zone, if
instead we had quick huddled a set of Mattison runs in the red zone, the result
would have been overwhelming adding 4 more to the tally, leaving that defense
smarting from its blood stained hands. In other words, this is what we are
going to do & there is nothing that can't stop it. The Pokes ... in
particular ... see this as an overwhelming factor as their greatest concern is
in the hope stopping the run.
When it's 4th & goal from the 1 foot line, a quarterback center sneak puts
Kirk Cousins at risk as anything can happen in the pile ... especially pushing
from behind. An elite quarterback is not designed for this. A better option
would be to remove Cousins completely from the play, inserting a "shat-gun"
Mattison into a
wildcat set, using a triple tight end set, with two offensive linemen (Brandel
& Oli Udoh) in the backfield to push it straight forward into the end
zone. No defense in the world can stop that formation from scoring or from
securing a 1st down. This new formation might be vital to the outcomes of
some Super Days!
Kirk Cousins is the same man but he is most certainly not the same
quarterback. Justin Fields, Jalen Hurts, & Josh Allen all have a spies
on defense roving the field as these athletes can take off & run at any
time. Although the spy may not come up with the tackle, that spy can
redirect the runner back to his help to prevent giving up that TD run. It
is clear that no one is spying on Cousins & he's taking advantage of this
loop hole in the defensive scheme by attacking it with his legs. Not only did
he recently score a touchdown, he secured a crucial red zone first down inside the 5 yard line
that ultimately resulted in a C. J. Ham touchdown. Yes, he's clearly
a knucklehead for not sliding to protect his body ... you idiot ... live for the
next play!!! In years past,
it's been all about securing stats but now it's about taking risks that result
in significant rewards. QB statistics heavily penalize interceptions where
now he's no longer afraid to sling it down the field to secure team
victories. This is not the same old Kirk Cousins ... he's found a new set
of eyes that values his abilities & encourage him to let it rip. This
team has gone from losing games to winning them & it's all due to the
rebirth of a new revitalized Kirk Cousins that is supported by a cast of knuckle
heads from top to bottom that are hell bent on winning every game that they
play.
The Eagles have since added two defensive lineman to their roster in anticipation
of facing this Vikings team once again. The first was DE
Robert Quinn from the Bears in a near NFL deadline trade and the latest being
Ex-Viking DT Linval Joseph from the Chargers. Do you think that will be
enough to overcome that ravenous crow when played in
Minnesota?
Before you even begin to criticize
Ed Ingram from stepping on Kirk Cousins feet twice in that Buffalo game you will
need to look at Kirk Cousins foot work from taking the snap from under the
center. Could it be that Cousins has become too accustomed to being in a
shot gun formation. My guess is that the fault lies with Cousins just like
all running back exchanges resulting in a fumble are charged to the QB.
What were Kirk Cousins feet doing under Ed Ingram's feet and where "false
steps" & poor foot placement involved? Keep in mind that our
quarterback can choose where to put his feet whereas poor Ed Ingram cannot see
what's behind him. Don't tell me that Ingram's is the weakest part of that
offensive line chain as he's clearly one of the dominant reasons for this teams
success. He is a marked improvement over years of sub-standard interior
line play & I'm ecstatic over everything that he's done for this team.
He may be a rookie ... but only in allowing knuckleheads to call him out for
things that are not his fault. He's the
Shat!
