Block Talent Snatch November
7, 2022
As Pat of Sirius
NFL's moving the chains states, "Just another Guy", he compressed all
the NFL's trade deadlines into one, in that in time they would all be
problematic. To which I say, Bunk! Kwesi is on another
level.
When we waived Ihmir Smith Marsette, at first I was devastated, thinking he's be
a solid 4th receiver if one of our top three were nicked, only to learn that we
traded for WR Jalen Reagor. In effect he retrieved Jalen from a hellish
situation in Philadelphia, caused in part by the draft order involving the
prolific Justin Jefferson, only to immerse him into that very core group of
Thielen, Jefferson & Osborn ... a dedicated group of receivers. My
only thought was to rely on the Zen Master ... "We'll
see".
Then on the NFL's trade deadline T.J. Hockenson was
added to our roster essentially for a 2nd round pick ... and it all becomes
clear. In 2023 Jefferson & Reagor, indelibly linked in that same draft
will be in their 4th year of their rookie contract which is now combined with Hockenson
5th year of his rookie deal in that same year. How Kwesi got away with
this "Block Talent Snatch", including the pro bowl tight end
Hockenson, is an absolute mystery, which may end up being an historic talent
haul. In years past, they referred to the Pokes Triplets led by Aikman,
Smith & Irvin however what they were thanks to the Walker trade with the
Vikings was a block of talent that would mature together. Could this be a
similar block of talent?
No one will ever forget the release of Cris Carter with the legendary statement,
"All he does is catch touchdowns!" by Buddy Ryan. He was
released from a hellish environment in Philadelphia. We all know how that
turned out but that doesn't mean the same outcome will happen for Jalen
Reagor. What is does prove & what it does mean is that he too was
immersed in a very bad situation & he now finds himself in a community which
can help him thrive. The present core group of receivers (Jefferson,
Thielen & Osborn) know that Reagor will be called upon this year & there
is no better crew to both learn & emulate. There is no better place to
be & to a man they will be committed to help him achieve his destiny.
To be direct, at first I didn't understand that trade, as he was presented as a
WR with flees that was a proficient punt returner, that is until I had seen his
game. Much like Patterson (that we never fully utilized), the Vikings will
be tasked with learning how to deploy Jalen however as a 3rd receiver running
through our backfield, he's become much like a run-pass or shovel pass option
with devastating punt returner moves. Any defense that treats Jalen as
"Just Another Guy" will do so at their own peril. He's sports a
unique set of threats that is absolutely impossible to quantify making just
another nightmarish set of options for O'Connell to ponder as he slumbers.
What Kwesi did was seize the opportunity to Snatch into the talent pool with the
object of securing a long term Block of Talent that may go along way at ensuring
an explosive offense for years to come. It's not only about monetary
enumeration as athletes today are searching for ingenuity combined with a savvy
set of skills. Kwesi is on his quest to prove that very
thing.
